What network does Sunrise use?
Sunrise is currently expanding its 5G network to cover the entire Swiss population. At the beginning of 2023, over 1200 cities in Switzerland were covered by high-speed 5G signal (up to 2 Gbps) and more than 98.7% of the population was reached by Sunrise's standard 5G antennas.
With the expansion of 5G and ensuring a comprehensive 4G coverage, Sunrise has decided to discontinue the management of the third-generation signal (also known as the 3G shutdown). Today, 3G technology has lower indoor and outdoor coverage compared to 4G, and its discontinuation can bring benefits by reducing the energy consumption of the mobile network, making these operations environmentally sustainable. The date for the shutdown of Sunrise's 3G network is planned for the first half of 2025. If your SIM needs to be replaced to support the 4G/5G bands, Sunrise will contact you in due time.
