internet-offer.ch has analyzed 22 of the most widely used Swiss mobile operators, gathering information on 69 roaming data packages for use in the EU, and identified the most cost-effective ones for various types of users. Discover which provider charges the least for roaming in Europe!

Switzerland, February 2024 - Internet-offer.ch presents the first annual edition of the EU Roaming Observatory, a thorough and unbiased analysis to identify the cost of each GB of internet data for roaming in the European Union. In this inaugural edition of the observatory, our team of experts has compiled and tabulated the supplementary data roaming offers from major telecommunications providers in Switzerland, generating separate rankings for each type of user.

Roaming Observatory: Which types of users were analyzed?

The analysis classified the proposals of Swiss operators according to user types categorized in the following groups:

  • Occasional Traveler: A user who takes short trips to Europe a few times a year. These users can opt for an annual package with 1 GB.

  • Frequent Travelers: Users who travel to Europe multiple times throughout the year for work or to visit loved ones. The ideal package is an annual roaming plan with internet data ranging from 1 to 10 GB.

  • Vacationers: Users who spend 2 to 4 consecutive weeks in Europe, enjoying holidays at the seaside, in the mountains, or near a European city of art. For these users, a monthly or annual package with at least 10 GB is recommended.

  • Single Trip: Users who visit a European city for a day or a weekend. Usually, it is more cost-effective for these users to activate a daily package.

  • Cross-Border Workers: Users who daily cross the EU-CH border for work. In this case, an unlimited subscription with roaming is advisable.

Complete Roaming Packages Analysis

The internet-offer.ch roaming observatory aims to be a useful tool to help Swiss subscribers choose the best operator that can offer savings in Switzerland as well as abroad when using their subscription. The analysis focuses on roaming packages that can be purchased in addition to one's mobile subscription. Alternatives to purchasing individual long-expiry roaming packages include using daily packages or purchasing a mobile subscription with included roaming.

In the case of daily package purchases, swype offers the best CHF/GB ratio with a price of just 0.30 CHF/GB.

Lapo Zarina, spokesperson for internet-offer.ch, commented on the 2024 roaming observatory analysis: "Analyzing the costs of roaming packages offered by major Swiss telecommunications operators highlights the need to consider all occasions when one's subscription will be used to ensure savings. With an economical subscription in Switzerland, it is possible to face high costs when abroad. Additionally, considering how often and with what frequency one will travel to Europe can help choose which roaming package from their operator to purchase for savings."
