MNP

Mobile Number Portability (MNP) is a service that allows mobile phone users to keep their phone number even when switching operators. This process enables consumers to freely choose among different mobile service providers without the need to communicate a new phone number to their contacts. MNP facilitates competition among mobile operators, encouraging them to offer better rates and services to attract and retain customers.

In everyday life, MNP is particularly useful for those who wish to switch to an operator that offers better rates, superior network coverage, or services more suited to their needs without the inconvenience of changing their phone number. For example, if a user finds a more affordable plan with another operator, they can request the portability of existing number to the new provider, continuing to receive calls and messages without interruptions and without having to inform friends, family, and colleagues of the change.

In Switzerland, Mobile Number Portability has been available since 2000 and is managed by telecommunications operators under the supervision of the Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM). Thanks to MNP, Swiss users can easily switch from one Swiss operator to another while keeping their phone number, thus promoting a more competitive and dynamic telecommunications market.

If you want to save money, compare mobile subscriptions and request portability during the purchase process.
