5G Coverage Map – NR
Tip: Use the desktop version for a better browsing experience.
The map above shows how many network operators provide 5G connectivity in a given area.
The covered areas are displayed in a 100x100 meter grid.
The color scale ranges up to green, indicating the highest percentage of coverage.
Areas with no color indicate the absence of 5G-NR antennas installed by mobile network operators.
Note: The actual availability of 5G depends on various factors, including environmental conditions, weather, and possible obstacles between your location and the antenna.
Who operates the 5G mobile network in Switzerland, and what frequencies are used?
The 5G network in Switzerland is operated by the three main providers:
Swisscom: The first operator to launch 5G internationally in 2019. Today, Swisscom leads in 5G+ coverage.
Sunrise: The second-largest provider in terms of coverage extension, currently reaching 99% of the population with 5G.
Salt: A growing network with expanding coverage. Salt currently offers combined 5G and 4G+ coverage to 99.9% of the population.
In addition to these three operators, most virtual mobile providers (MVNOs)Â using their networks also offer access to 5G services.
Frequencies used for 5G coverage in Switzerland:
700 MHz (Band n28) → Provides broad coverage, used to bring broadband connectivity to remote areas (e.g., in the mountains).
1400 MHz (Band n75/n76) → Used to enhance network capacity.
3500 MHz (Band n78) → High-speed coverage, mainly used in cities and densely populated areas.
26 GHz (Band n258) → Millimeter waves (mmWave) for ultra-fast speeds, typically used for industrial applications.
How fast is the 5G network of Swiss providers?
The theoretical maximum speed of 5G is 10 Gbps. Currently, the major Swiss providers offer the following speeds:
Swisscom → 99% of the population is covered by 5G. With 5G+, Swisscom offers speeds up to 2 Gbps.
Sunrise → Over 96% of the population is covered with 5G, with speeds up to 1 Gbps. In over 1,100 locations, Sunrise provides 5G broadband with speeds up to 2 Gbps.
Salt → More than 55% of the population has access to 5G, offering speeds up to 1 Gbps. The 5G+ network from Salt reaches speeds of up to 1.7 Gbps, but coverage is still limited to some urban areas.
What are the pros and cons of a 5G mobile connection?
Here is a summary of the key advantages and disadvantages of 5G:
Pros | Cons |
Extremely high speeds, up to 10 Gbps with millimeter waves | Limited coverage, especially for high-speed 5G (3.5 GHz and mmWave) |
Very low latency, ideal for gaming, streaming, and IoT applications | Limited compatibility, requires specific devices and plans |
Increased network capacity, reduces congestion compared to 4G | Higher power consumption on some devices compared to 4G |
Improved energy efficiency for devices and networks | Potentially higher costs for data plans and infrastructure |
